When my daughter asked for a Wicked-themed birthday party to celebrate turning nine, I knew it would be a fun challenge — and it ended up being one of the most magical parties we’ve ever thrown.
If your child loves Wicked or anything from Oz, here are the easy, budget-friendly ideas we used to bring the theme to life. Hopefully they help you plan your own memorable celebration.
From witches to wizards, our age-by-age party resource has enchanting themes to explore.
Wicked Birthday Party Ideas (Quick Guide)
- Welcome guests with a “Welcome to Oz” sign and a Yellow Brick Road runner.
- Keep things bright with green and pink decor, Wicked music, and simple themed drinks.
- Serve kid-favorite treats like Green Popcorn and a Wicked-inspired cake.
- Set up easy activities: temporary tattoos, dress-up, photo booth fun, and a cozy movie viewing.
- Add playful touches like “Private Sorcery Lessons” signs and Wicked-themed favors.
Setting the Scene for a Wicked-Themed Birthday Party
We transformed our home into our own version of the Emerald City with a few fun touches:
“Welcome to Oz” Entrance Decor
We hung a green “Welcome to Oz” sign on the front door with pink ribbon streamers. It was such a simple way to set the tone right away.
Wicked Music & First Impressions
As guests arrived, we had the Wicked soundtrack playing on a speaker. The music instantly made everything feel theatrical and fun.
Coat & Gift Station Setup
We set up a small drop zone for coats and gifts to keep the chaos from spreading through the house.
Marking Off-Limit Areas (“Private Sorcery Lessons”)
My daughter made little signs that said “Private Sorcery Lessons” to keep kids from wandering into rooms upstairs. They were cute and effective.
Wicked-Themed Decor, Drinks & Snacks for Kids
Green & Pink Wicked Color Palette
We stuck with two main colors — Elphaba green and Glinda pink — and sprinkled them throughout the space.
Elphaba’s Elixir (Green Drink)
Sprite + a few drops of green food coloring. Easy, cheap, and surprisingly magical.
Glinda’s Bubble Brew (Pink Drink)
Store-bought pink lemonade with extra pink food coloring to make it bright and bubbly.
Color-Changing Potion Drinks
We froze blue ice cubes (just water + blue food coloring).
As they melted in the drinks, they shifted the colors to teal or purple.
The kids loved this — huge hit.

Green Popcorn Recipe (Crowd Favorite!)
This turned out so well, and it fed a big group.
Ingredients
- 20 cups popped popcorn
- 1 cup light corn syrup
- 2 cups sugar
- ½ cup butter
- 1 tsp vanilla
- ½ tsp salt
- Green food coloring
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 250°F.
- Spread popcorn on a baking sheet.
- Boil syrup, sugar, butter, vanilla, and salt while stirring.
- Add green coloring.
- Pour mixture over popcorn and stir.
- Bake for 30 minutes, stirring every 10.
- Let cool before serving.
We made 20 cups for 15 guests — next time I’d double it.

Wicked Birthday Cake Ideas (Our Showstopper Cake!)
Green/Pink Split Cake Design
My talented friend made the cake, and it looked incredible: half green, half pink.
Fondant Broomstick & Witch Hat
She added a little broomstick, a witch’s hat, and other Wicked-inspired details.
Pink Gelatin Bubbles
These sat on top and looked so whimsical.
It was almost too pretty to eat… almost.

Wicked-Themed Activities & Party Games for Kids
Wicked Temporary Tattoos
We set up a tattoo station. The kids kept going back to it between other activities.
Dress-Up & Wicked Photo Booth Ideas
Some kids came in costume, and we added a yellow brick road runner as the backdrop for photos.
Yellow Brick Road Photo Path
Adding a Yellow Brick Road Path was one of the simplest things we did, and it made the pictures so much more fun.
Screening the Wicked Movie (“Emerald City Theater”)
About 15 minutes into the party, we put on Wicked.
We turned the basement into the “Emerald City Theater” with blankets, pillows, and a green sign that said “One Short Day in the Emerald City.”
Extra Wicked Touches Kids Will Love
“Oz Dust Bathroom” Sign
My daughter labeled the bathroom the “Oz Dust Bathroom.” It got lots of laughs.
DIY Silhouette of Oz
We cut out a silhouette of Oz on green poster board. Super simple, great atmosphere.
Wicked-Inspired Party Favors
We handed out colorful bubbles with a little fancied-up note — an easy way to send kids home happy.

Final Tips for Hosting a Wicked Birthday Party
You truly don’t need a big budget to make this theme work. A few green and pink details, some music from the show, and a couple of themed snacks go a long way. My daughter declared it “the best birthday ever,” and honestly, I felt the same.
