Swing Park, the popular play area beneath the Holton Street Bridge near the Marsupial Bridge, remains closed, and recent online listings—including Google—currently show it as permanently closed. There has been no new public timeline released by the City of Milwaukee about reopening or rebuilding the space.

At this time, no construction has begun on the previously proposed redesign. If updated information becomes available from the city or local officials, we’ll add it here.

Background on the Proposed Redesign (2024)

In 2024, the City of Milwaukee shared early concepts for transforming Swing Park into a new space called “The Landing at Tannery Row.” The proposal included:

  • A small neighborhood playground
  • A lighted artistic screen surrounding the play area
  • A “River Theater” with seating near the river
  • Boardwalk-style paths and native landscaping
  • A paddlecraft dock for river access

These plans were developed by the Smith Group in collaboration with the city, and community members were invited to share feedback in fall 2024. However, since then, no additional updates or next steps have been announced.

Why Swing Park Closed

The area originally closed due to safety concerns and ongoing Holton Street Bridge repairs, which are still underway. The closure has lasted longer than expected, and no reopening date has been provided.

We’ll Keep This Page Updated
