About a 30 minute drive outside of Milwaukee, Bear Den Zoo & Petting Farm offers a charming and unique experience for kids and families.
Where else can your kids cuddle with baby bunnies, pet a calf, or—if you’re lucky—hold a baby kangaroo?
This family-owned farm has been delighting visitors for over 35 years, combining the charm of a traditional petting zoo with unique animal encounters you won’t find anywhere else.
It’s a hands-on, laid-back adventure that’s perfect for little ones.
Friendly Animals & Hands-On Fun
Bear Den Zoo is home to a variety of animals that are sure to delight your little ones. You’ll find familiar farm animals like calves, llamas, goats, and bunnies, as well as a few surprises, like baby kangaroos and lemurs!
Many of the animals can be pet or fed, making it a wonderfully hands-on experience for children.
While it’s not guaranteed that you’ll be able to hold animals, the staff do what they can to make the experience memorable.
Typically, kids can hold bunnies, chicks, or kittens, and lucky visitors might even get to pet baby arctic foxes or armadillos, as these animals rotate between breaks to prevent them from getting overwhelmed by eager guests.
Activities for the Whole Family
Beyond the animals, there’s a kid-friendly playground to burn off energy, and the hayride is a hit with visitors of all ages.
The scenic ride winds through the farm’s beautiful grounds, giving families a peaceful way to explore the zoo.
In the fall, Bear Den really shines with their seasonal offerings. Families can enjoy a pumpkin patch, festive Halloween decorations, face painting, and even trick-or-treating around the farm. You can warm up with hot apple cider or hot chocolate while taking in the festive autumn atmosphere.
Relaxed and Family-Focused Atmosphere
What sets Bear Den Zoo apart from larger, busier zoos is its laid-back, intimate vibe. The farm isn’t huge, which allows families to explore at their own pace without feeling rushed.
It’s a manageable size for younger kids—perfect for toddlers and preschoolers who might get overwhelmed in bigger settings.
