When we started planning our family vacation to Cabo San Lucas, we knew we wanted somewhere warm, sunny, and packed with activities for all ages.
After many hours of research, we decided on Pueblo Bonito Los Cabos, a Mediterranean-inspired resort with everything we were looking for: a swimmable beach, family-friendly amenities, and proximity to Cabo’s vibrant downtown.
From the stunning views and poolside smoothies to swimming with dolphins and dining under the stars, our trip to Cabo was absolutely unforgettable. Here’s everything I learned and loved about the resort to help you plan your own perfect family getaway.

Why We Chose Pueblo Bonito Los Cabos for Our Family Vacation
Warm, Reliable Winter Weather
We specifically wanted a location that offered reliably beautiful warm weather during our winter break over Christmas and New Year’s, and Cabo delivered. The mornings started out cool (I wore a sweatshirt to breakfast most mornings), but by 9:30 or 10:00 a.m., it was warm enough to jump in the pool.
All-Inclusive Option for Easy Meals
We also wanted to take advantage of the all-inclusive option so that we wouldn’t have to stress at meal-time (and snack-time!). Our kids loved ordering smoothies and nachos all day long, and I loved the Acai bowl for breakfast every morning at Paloma’s.
A Rare Swimmable Beach in Cabo
When it came to choosing a resort, we also prioritized finding a place with a swimmable beach. Many Cabo resorts are located along beaches with strong currents that make swimming unsafe. Ultimately, we chose Pueblo Bonito Los Cabos (aka “Blanco”) because of its beachfront location with safe swimming conditions and reputation as a family-friendly resort.
Access to Sister Properties
Pueblo Bonito Rose is a sister resort that is right next store. You can walk there in less than one minute, and use their pool and restaurants. Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach is a sister resort that is about 20 minutes away. We visited one night to eat dinner there. It’s beautiful, but there is no swimmable beach, and you need to take golf carts to make your way around the massive property.

Wildlife Encounters Kids Will Love
Our kids loved the flamingos, exotic birds, lizards, and koi fish who lived on the resort premises. We also did a Dolphin Experience with Cabo Adventures and it was the highlight of our trip. Finally, we got to see sea lions and tropical fish during our Arch & Lover’s Beach Boat Tour.
Poolside Relaxation and Kid Favorites
With poolside pottery painting, easy-to-access buffets, and plenty of kid-friendly dining options, the resort is great for families.

Perhaps the most important reason why we chose Pueblo Bonito Los Cabos over the other options in Cabo San Lucas is because of its swimmable beach. Unlike many Cabo resorts, this beach is safe for swimming, especially the closer you get to “Land’s End.”
What to Expect With Vendors
The beach at Pueblo Bonito Los Cabos offers soft sand and gentle waves, making it ideal for kids. However, expect vendors selling goods and services. While some found it intrusive, a simple “No gracias” worked for us.
On the flip side, our kids loved negotiating with vendors to get their hair braided, henna tattoos, and sun hats.
Pool Versus Beach With Kids
The pool area is another standout feature. Bright blue waters, tropical landscaping, and poolside service made it our go-to spot for relaxation. We chose the all-inclusive option, so our kids could order smoothies and nachos to their hearts delight.

Breakfast Options
Sit-down meals at Paloma’s or a buffet at the sister resort. At Paloma’s, you’ll enjoy fresh pastries, table side service, and fresh food like the acai bowl.
Lunch by the Pool
Poolside ordering with kid-friendly options like pizza and nachos, plus adult favorites like ceviche and salads.
Dinner at Sister Resorts
For dinner, we alternated between Cilantro, a poolside sushi spot, and the buffet at the sister resort next door. You can also take a shuttle to Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach, which offers a wide variety of dining options.
The Wristband System for Kids
A bonus for families: the wristband system! Our 13-year-old’s junior wristband let him grab food independently, which he loved. However, the younger kids’ wristbands didn’t double as room keys.

Bedding & Comfort
The rooms at Pueblo Bonito Los Cabos are perfectly fine for a beach vacation, but it’s worth setting expectations. The mattresses lean toward the firmer side and the pillows are flatter than what you’d find at newer luxury resorts. We still slept well because we were exhausted from being outside all day, but if you’re particular about bedding, it may feel a bit basic.
Many families recommend requesting extra pillows or blankets at check-in — housekeeping was quick to bring whatever we needed.
Room Style and Views
he décor has a charming, slightly vintage Mediterranean feel — white walls, blue accents, and traditional tile that matches the overall style of the resort. It’s not modern or recently renovated, but it’s clean, functional, and has plenty of space for families who don’t plan to spend much time indoors.
The view from our Oceanfront Luxury Suite was the star of the show. You can see Land’s End right from the balcony, and watching the sunrise each morning was honestly one of my favorite parts of the trip.
What Families Might Want to Know
- Suites are spacious and the separate living area makes it easy to spread out with kids.
- Kitchenettes (in many rooms) are helpful for simple breakfasts or snacks.
- Bathrooms are basic but clean — just don’t expect luxury finishes.
- Balconies vary in size, so if outdoor space is important, request a larger terrace when booking.
- Noise levels were minimal for us, but rooms closer to the pool can hear activity during the day.
- Wi-Fi is included in the all-inclusive package — not the fastest, but totally fine for kids’ devices.

Dolphin Encounter With Cabo Adventures
Dolphin Encounter with Cabo Adventures: Swimming with Nakai the dolphin was far and away the highlight of our trip. Each family member had a chance to pet, hug, and even swim with him. It’s also one of the only places in the world that will let you do a deep dive with the dolphin, which three of us did!
They do not allow phones or personal cameras inside the lagoon area, so be prepared for professional photos to be the only option.
Boat Tour to the Cabo Arch
Boat Tour to the Cabo Arch: On our last day, we took a boat to the iconic arch. The kids loved spotting sea lions and tropical fish, and the views were breathtaking. You can stop and spend time at Lover’s Beach.
Lover’s Beach Stop
Some boat tours will let you hop off at Lover’s Beach, a gorgeous little stretch of sand sandwiched between dramatic rock formations. If your kids love exploring, this is a fun stop.
Worth knowing:
- There are no bathrooms, food, or vendors on the beach.
- The waves can change quickly — stay on the Sea of Cortez side, not the Pacific side.
- Plan for 15–30 minutes of beach time; boats return to pick you up.
- Bring towels and water if you plan to hop off.
It’s absolutely beautiful, but families with toddlers may prefer to skip the stop because there’s nowhere to safely shade little ones.
Wildlife Sightings
One of the unexpected joys of Cabo was how much wildlife we saw without even trying:
- Sea lions barking and lounging on the rocks
- Colorful fish darting beneath the boats
- Pelicans swooping down for food
- Flamingos, koi fish, and tropical birds right on the resort walkway
For kids, this added an extra layer of excitement — it felt like each day included its own little safari moment.

While our trip was incredible, it’s important to acknowledge some of the challenges we noticed during our stay:
Extreme Poverty Outside Resort Zones
Outside the tourist zones, there’s extreme poverty, with many residents living in difficult conditions. While this contrast is common in resort towns, it’s worth being aware of.
Water Shortages & Local Infrastructure
Conversations with locals revealed that Cabo San Lucas relies heavily on tourism and has limited infrastructure beyond the resort areas. For example, water shortages are a significant issue for residents.
Vendor Culture on the Beach
The constant presence of beach vendors can be a pro or a con, depending on your perspective. While we didn’t mind saying “No gracias,” others might find it intrusive.

Not all Cabo beaches are safe for swimming. The beach at Pueblo Bonito Los Cabos is safe for swimming.

If you want to visit Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach, you’ll need to reserve the shuttle first thing in the morning for same-day travel. Additionally, make reservations at Cilantro on your first day to ensure you get the dining times you prefer throughout the week.

We recommend bringing $500 in pesos for tips throughout the week. You can get a good exchange rate at your bank, but allow a week or so for them to process your request. Alternatively, you can exchange money at the airport upon arrival, though the rate may not be as favorable. The resort also has an ATM onsite, but you’ll incur additional fees.

When choosing between the three Pueblo Bonito resorts in Cabo, here’s what stood out to us:
Pueblo Bonito Los Cabos (Blanco)
This is the classic Grecian-style, Mediterranean-inspired resort with white and blue tones and direct access to a rare swimmable beach. Its smaller size makes it easy to navigate with kids, and you’re just a 10-minute walk from downtown Cabo. If you want swimmable waters and a central location, this is the winner.
The resort’s Mediterranean-inspired design—with white and blue tones—creates a luxurious yet laid-back atmosphere. Wildlife around the property, including flamingos, lizards, and fish, added a touch of magic for the kids.
Pueblo Bonito Rose
Located right next door (literally less than a minute’s walk), Rose has a pink, rose-colored décor that feels a little more tropical and feminine. Guests at Los Cabos can use Rose’s pool and buffet restaurant, which adds variety without needing transportation. Rose doesn’t feel quite as intimate as Los Cabos, but the shared access is a nice perk.
Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach
Sunset Beach is about 20 minutes away by shuttle, perched high on the bluffs with panoramic Pacific Ocean views. It’s a massive, sprawling property where you’ll ride golf carts to get around. Sunset offers multiple pools, more restaurants, and lots of activities, but the major drawback for families is that there’s no swimmable beach due to strong currents. We loved visiting for dinner and exploring the grounds, but for a family vacation with younger kids, it felt less convenient compared to Los Cabos and Rose.
Our Take:
If you want easy beach access and a walkable location, choose Pueblo Bonito Los Cabos. If you like the idea of sharing amenities but prefer a slightly different vibe, Rose is a solid alternative. And if you want sweeping views, variety, and don’t mind relying on golf carts, Sunset Beach is a destination all its own—just keep in mind you can’t swim in the ocean there.
