Milwaukee is opening its doors, and there are plenty of kid-friendly autumn activities going on to keep the young ones (and even their furry friends) entertained. Here are our top picks for the weekend:
Saturday, Sept. 25 – Sunday, Sept. 26
Doors Open Milwaukee is back! A celebration of Milwaukee’s neighborhoods, architecture, and history, this event offers FREE behind-the-scenes tours of 70 businesses and organizations. Some of the more kid-friendly ones include Model Railroad Club, Milwaukee Fire Museum, Adventure Rock in Walker’s Point, UWM Manfred Olson Planetarium, The Collaborative Farm, Schlitz Audubon Nature Center and Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. Henry Maier Festival Park
Join thousands of pet lovers and their four-legged family members for a day of fur and fun at Henry Maier Festival Park! Here’s your doggy’s chance to try his paw at dock diving, an agility course and more. For the two-legged children, there’s a kids zone with fun activities near the Community Park playground. 3. Harvest Fair
Friday, Sept. 24 – Sunday, Sept. 26
Wisconsin State Fair Park
For the 28th year, Harvest Fest will be offering up FREE entertainment at Wisconsin State Fair Park. There will be kid-friendly activities galore, including pumpkin bowling, make-your-own scarecrows, giant hay bales, a mini milk crate maze and amusement rides (tickets $1 each). Moms and dads will love the amphitheater headliners, lumberjack shows, farmers’ market and State Fair food vendors, including cream puffs in pumpkin spice and latte flavors. Get details here.

MSOE Kern Center
Part science fair and part county fair, Maker Faire showcases creative work in dozens of fields – technology, art, engineering, and a lot more! Hosted by the Milwaukee School of Engineering and presented by Gearbox Labs, the event also offers a bunch of related hands-on activities (registration required). Learn more here.

The Corners of Brookfield
Get to know the teams and trucks that help keep us safe! Kids can get an up-close look at the Town of Brookfield Fire Department, Police Department, construction and utility vehicles.
