Family Sunday at the Art Museum happening this Sunday

On Sunday, May 6, families can make water-inspired art right in front of the Milwaukee Art Museum’s expansive lakefront window at the event Kohl’s Art Generation Family Sundays: By Land or By Sea.

Inspired by the exhibition Coming Away: Winslow Homer and England, the all-ages event is free with admission to the Museum, and completely free of charge for kids ages 12 and under thanks to Kohl’s Cares. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 6, visitors of all ages can make art through printmaking, painting and drawing—capturing the beauty of Lake Michigan and learning about the work of Winslow Homer. Families can also take a tour through the exhibition with the accompanying family guide.

This event occurs during Member Swap Day, making the event free for all Milwaukee Art Museum Members, as well as members of the Boys and Girls Club, Betty Brinn Children's Museum, Charles Allis Art Museum, Grohmann Museum, Milwaukee Public Museum, Pabst Mansion and the Villa Terrace Decorative Arts Museum.

The Milwaukee German Immersion School and Turnaround Arts Milwaukee will perform under the wings in Windhover Hall. Student art from the Notre Dame School of Milwaukee and The Milwaukee German Immersion School will also be on display.

Visitors will learn about screen printing through a live demonstration by Wisconsin-based artist Craig Grabhorn. Grabhorn will create a series of giant silkscreen prints inspired by Lake Michigan while visitors look on. Kohl’s Art Generation Family Sundays happen five times a year, each with different themes and activities, and are free with Museum admission. Kids 12 years old and under are free every day the Museum is open thanks to Kohl’s Cares. For more information, visit mam.org.
