Christy Wopat, a teacher in Holmen, WI, experienced the unimaginable - losing her infant twins. And as she searched for books that would help her through this dark time, she felt lost. "I couldn't find anything on the shelves at the bookstore that was actually honest" she says.
So she started writing herself. "Almost a Mother: Love, Loss, and Finding your People When Your Baby Dies" is Christy's heart-wrenching memoir about the grief and healing process. She hopes that the forthright, brutally honest nature of the book will help others who have experienced a devastating loss.
“I just wanted to know that I wasn’t crazy because I wanted to punch the pregnant lady at Target in the face.”
Christy's book tour will include a meet-and-greet at Half Price Books in Brookfield on Saturday, April 28th from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. It's free and open to the public. She'll be reading selections from her book, answering questions, and signing copies.
Martha Merrell's Books & Toys in Waukesha will host Christy for a writer's workshop on Sunday, April 29th, from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. It's perfect for anyone who is interested in learning more about the process of writing personal narratives, and how it can be therapeutic.
Wopat also runs a blog and Facebook page called "Um, You Guys?" She recently launched a website, christywopat.com, where you can learn more about her story.
"Almost a Mother" can be purchased on amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com, and christywopat.com.
