Discovery World is teaming up with other local Fund for Lake Michigan grantees to provide fun hands-on activities for everyone to enjoy. This is a family-friendly event offering fun and interactive educational experiences aimed at introducing you to our community’s connection to freshwater through local organizations that are instrumental in sustaining the Great Lakes.

There will be scavenger hunts, scientific valentines, special crafts and workshops, and more.

#2. Valentine Projects at Betty Brinn Children's Museum

Included with admission, all day: Create one-of-a-kind valentine cards out of paper, fabric, yarn and unique materials. Bring your little valentines for crafts, creativity and fun!

Special workshop: From 2:00-4:00, join the facilitated Valentine’s Soft Circuits workshop in the Be A Maker space. Learn the basics of circuitry and sewing with conductive thread to make a light-up wearable LED valentine you can take home! Participants will receive all the materials and tools needed to create a project from start to finish. (Recommended for children age 8 and older.) Children must be accompanied by an adult. Museum admission is not included in workshop fee.

Snowshoeing offers a great cardiovascular work-out for people of every age & fitness level, & gives you instant access to the forest & the peace provided by nature. It's a low-impact sport, much simpler & safer than skiing. It's an activity kids, adults & even seniors can do. If you can walk, you can snowshoe. Afterwards you can enjoy either hot chocolate or hot spiced apple cider. The trails are lit by candle luminarias.

Kids Hour is designed to spark imagination and creativity through fun, hands-on projects. Kids will explore coding with Sphero robots by programming simple movements, loops, and more. Then they’ll design a maze and navigate their robot through the obstacles. Kids can bring their own iPad and Sphero Sprk+ robot, or we’ll provide them. Recommended for ages 6 to 12.

Kids Hour: Making Movies Together

This Kids Hour is dedicated to exploring creativity through movie making for both kids and parents. We’ll start with brainstorming ideas. Then kids will practice basic camera techniques and shoot footage using iPad Pro. They’ll finish by creating a professional movie trailer with iMovie. Kids can bring their own iPad or we’ll provide one. Recommended for ages 6-12.
