5 ideas to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday


Dr. Seuss's rhymes are not only catchy and fun, they are often quiet meaningful. He had a way of bringing wisdom and encouragement to children in their own words. What better time to celebrate his whimsy and brilliance than on his birthday. Thursday, March 2nd is the big day, and you can catch fun events around town all weekend long.

Milwaukee Public Libraries is hosting several events to help celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday. Choose your favorite!

3. Dr. Seuss Birthday Party at Chasing Tales

Saturday, March 4th, 10:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m.

Friday, March 10th, 10:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m.

Price $10 per child ($3 per child for members.)

This special Dr. Seuss Party will include organized games, special crafts, making Oobleck, Dr. Seuss themed snacks like Truffula Seeds and Trees, Dr. Seuss themed games like Green eggs on a spoon race, Green Egg Cookie decorating, and a photo booth with Dr. Seuss props. Admission also includes the opportunity to stay after the party to play some more!

4. Family Fun Night: Dr. Seuss Celebratoin Oak Creek Public Library

March. 7thEnjoy a short Seuss movie plus crafts and a birthday cake at the library. No registration is required.

5. Seussical Jr. the musical

Enjoy an unforgettable Dr. Seuss musical including Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters from Tony-winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty.

Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos. Horton must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, and he must also guard an abandoned egg that’s been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!

Performances: 7:30 p.m. Fridays, 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Saturdays, 4:00 p.m. Sundays
