Here are some our favorite unique camps being offered this summer:
Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts (Brookfield)
This camp combines nature and art in Brookfield's Mitchell Park. Teaching artists lead nature walks, discovering plants wildlife. The other part of the day is inside with theatre, dance and visual art classes. The camp will help your child discover the sounds, patterns, colors, and rhythms in our own backyard.
Schlitz Audubon Nature Center
Monday, June 13 - Friday, June 17
Participants must bring their own digital camera or smart phone, iPod/iPad. Have a photo shoot with Schlitz Audubon’s animals! As you go on adventures you will find wild animals on the trails, lie under the trees, see birds singing, and discover what is under the water at the ponds. You will also enjoy your own private photo session with the resident Center animals as your models during this awesome week of summer camp!
Lynden Sculpture Garden
June 20 - 24
Grades K-2 and 3-5
The beautiful outdoor setting of the Lynden Sculpture Garden is the inspiration for creativity in this one-of-a-kind camp. Spend the morning singing, playing instruments and moving to music at the Conservatory’s Audubon Court location. Then, travel to the Lynden Sculpture Garden (buses provided) to create original works of music and art based on the sculptures around you. No musical experience required.
4. No Place Like Space (Ages 5-6)
Have a blast exploring the planets and stars in our solar system! Come ready to dance through the Milky Way, practice your moon walk, and create your own rocket ship. This camp is out of this world!
5. Jr. Fashion Designer (Grades 3-5)
Have you ever wanted to design, sew, and assemble an entire look from head to toe? In the Kohl’s Design It! Lab, you’ll experiment with hand-stitching, machine sewing, and professional tools like laser-cutters and heat-sealers to put together your customized line of clothing. This is your runway, and you’re going to own it!
6. LEGO® Robot Engineer (Grades 3-5)
Do you have what it takes to become a robot engineer? Work with a partner to build and program one of our LEGO® Mindstorm NXTsTM to complete a series of challenges. Whether you’re currently on a FIRST® LEGO® League team or have never even seen a NXT robot before, this camp will take your robot building and programming skills to the next level.
7. Detective Academy (Grades 6-8)
Become the next Sherlock Holmes as you try to crack a Discovery World mystery. Meet trained detectives who will give you the trade secrets on what it’s really like to investigate a crime scene. Learn how to detect a liar, take fingerprints, and analyze hair samples using professional gear that forensic scientists use in the field.
8. Filmmaker 101 (Grades 6-8)
Rolling! Learn how to create your own video in a collaborative environment by using professional gear and video editing software. Create tools such as soft boxes and portable green screens to help you make your best work. Cover all the angles of filmmaking techniques, take home short video projects, and learn what you need to know to make your next award-winning video!
Milwaukee County Zoo
Wouldn't it be cool to be a zookeeper when you grow up? You'll work hard as you practice the three main jobs of a zookeeper: feeding, cleaning and helping. Go behind the scenes at the horse barn, clean a home for the Zoo's baby chicks and feed the goats. Join in to learn about these fun (but dirty!) zookeeper jobs.
