11 Ideas for free fun this spring

If you’re looking for new things to do with your kids without spending a dime, you’ve come to the right place! Here are several ideas for kid-friendly fun, completely free around Milwaukee:

1. Feed the animals

Animal Feeding at the Urban Ecology Center happens every Saturday afternoon. Help feed the Center’s resident turtles, snakes, fish and more!

2. Day Trips

Some day trips are completely free, such as the Dinosaur Discovery Museum in Kenosha, the Jelly Belly Warehouse in Pleasant Prairie, and Holy Hill in Hubertus. Check out our entire list!

3. Family Hikes

Every month, Havenwoods State Forest offers free, themed, guided family nature hikes on Saturday mornings. Use their binoculars, magnifiers and other fun tools to explore the wild!

4. Free Admission Days

The Domes (currently closed to public, reopening soon) – Free to Milwaukee County residents every Monday from 9-12.

Milwaukee Public Museum – Free on the first Thursday of the month to everyone.

Milwaukee Art Museum – Free every first Friday of the month to everyone

Betty Brinn Children’s Museum – Free every third Thursday of the month from 5:00-8:00 for Neighborhood Night.

7. Science Saturdays & Sundays

Discover the world of science through self-led interactive activities and crafts at the Urban Ecology Center at Riverside Park.

8. State Forest fun

Climb the tower in Lapham Peak State Park, or hike a small part of the Glacial Drumlin State Trail. There are 11 State Parks within one hour of Milwaukee!

9. Tours and Tastings

Some tours and tastings are completely free, such as the self-guided Monuments & Statues walking tour, and tours of the Wisconsin Humane Society.

10. Wisconsin Explorer Programs

Make tracks to the nearest state park, forest, trail, or recreation area and ask for a free Wisconsin Explorer booklet. Inside you’ll find nature activities, scavenger hunts, games, hikes and crafts to help you explore Wisconsin’s great outdoors together.

Kids who complete the requirements will earn collectable state symbol patches. Don’t just sit there – get out and start Solving Mysteries together!
