Spring has officially arrived, and what better way to celebrate the season than by decorating Easter pies?
I was more than happy to oblige Bakers Square when they suggested an Easter-themed pie decorating playdate.
And I must say – these kids nailed it!
First, we headed to the Bakers Square on Capitol Dr. in Shorewood and picked out pies that were just crying out to be decorated. We chose a strawberry rhubarb, lemon meringue, custard, and french silk pie.
Then, we had a ball in the grocery store picking out Springy decorations. We picked up fresh berries, coconut flakes, Easter egg jelly beans and malted milk balls, flower and pearl sprinkles, flower shaped candles, bunny and chick marshmallows, and of course – whipped cream!
When we got home, the kids waited oh-so-patiently while I got all the pies and decorations organized and took a bunch of pictures.
Sooo many pictures. Look at those eager faces!
Finally, it was time to decorate!
First, we covered the strawberry rhubarb pie in a thick layer of whipped cream, and topped it with fresh strawberries, blueberries and bananas.
Then, we sprinkled the custard pie with coconut flakes to look like a nest, and placed a pile of jelly bean eggs next to a large blue marshmallow chick. We topped it off with some purple marshmallow bunnies and banana slices.
On the french silk pie, we just added some color and sweetness to the thick chocolate shavings that were already on the pie.
We used flower sprinkles and a thin drizzle of chocolate fudge to make it look festive.
Finally, I spelled out Happy Easter 2016 on the lemon meringue pie, poked in some flower candles, and topped it off with some flower and pearl sprinkles.
And let’s be honest, folks. There was plenty of snacking on these delicious decorations in the interim.
Our final results were not too shabby! Check out these beautiful, springy pies.
Did I mention the pies were super delicious?
We dove right into the strawberry rhubarb pie, and brought the others as gifts to our friends and neighbors.
And the best part is that we really enjoyed the quality family time. It was the perfect way to spend an otherwise uneventful Friday evening.
