Leave it to the Urban Ecology Center to come up with the coolest, most unique events for kids.
December 19th is the Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year. To celebrate, the Urban Ecology Center is hosting a Candlelight Walk for Kids at their Riverside Park branch.
The event will take place from 4:30 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. and features short nature walk routes and games. Walks leave every 15-20 minutes. Dress for the weather and for walking along paths in Riverside Park.
Back at the Urban Ecology Center building, participants can stay warm by the fire while enjoying snacks and hot cider. Musicians Toco Rio will beplaying a mix of jazz, Brazilian, and seasonal tunes.
Following the kids' event, the adult Candlelight Walks will take place from 7:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. Adult hikers will enjoy guided walks along luminary-lit paths in the Milwaukee Rotary Centennial Arboretum and stop along the way for readings of seasonal poetry and prose. It is a unique opportunity to experience the serenity of the nighttime forest in the heart of the city.
