Family-Friendly Brunches Part 1: The Lumberjack Brunch at Hubbard Park Lodge

I hesitate to write this article, because I want the Hubbard Park Lodge Lumberjack Brunch to stay the well-kept secret that it seems to be. But, alas, there are not that many family-friendly brunches out there. Therefore, I dutifully feel it is my moral obligation to share it with other parents who may not have discovered it yet.

Hubbard Park Lodge, situated in a picturesque park along the Milwaukee River in Shorewood, offers area families a little bit of nature and a lot of traditional brunch food at a seriously reasonable price.

Park in the small lot off of Morris Blvd. and take a short hike through the white tunnel (which runs beneath the Oak Leaf Trail). Continue up the trail until you arrive at a large rustic cabin in the woods. (We usually get there around nine or ten o’clock, and we’ve never once had to wait for a table.)

The best part of eating here with young children is that there is no waiting time between sitting down and beginning to eat, lessening the likelihood of embarrassing meltdowns.

Upon arrival, your waiter will bring out a warm basket of freshly made doughnut bites that are crispy to perfection on the outside and soft and warm on the inside. From there, you can peruse the cereal and fruit bar to tide over your little ones. You can also take advantage of an all-you-can-eat Log Cabin pancake station, a made to order egg bar, chef carved roasted meat station and a fresh salad and pasta salad bar.

On our most recent visit, the talented omelet maker suggested I try a salmon, spinach and cream cheese omelet, and I was not disappointed that I took his advice.

In case you’re still hungry, your waiter will also bring out family-style servings of smoked bacon and sausage, Wisconsin cheesy hash browns and fresh rolls.

The atmosphere is light and casual, the staff is friendly, and this place is most definitely aiming to be family-friendly. So go without fear! A family-friendly brunch awaits you on Sundays from 9:00-2:00. Apparently, their Friday Fish Fry is also family-friendly.

But don’t tell anyone else.
