Back-to-school Resource Fair (August 20 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum) – This special Neighborhood Night was created in 2003 to help disadvantaged families in our community ensure a successful school year. Join us for free admission and evening hours, and gather information from area resources. Children entering K3 – 5th grade are eligible to receive free school supplies while supplies last. Stop by the Be A Maker space for a special DIY project To support the Resource Fair, please call 414-390-5437, ext. 240.

Fun back-to-school traditions

Pinterest is as useful as ever in finding clever back-to-school traditions that make the start of the year less stressful and more joyful. Here are some of my favorites:

1. A School Year’s Eve Party – Dig out your New Year’s Eve decorations and celebrate as a family the night before school starts!

2. Back to School Fashion Show – Show off those new clothes you bought with a living room fashion show, complete with techno runway music and a sillly announcer voice.

3. First Day of School Fairy – Like the tooth fairy, this magical creature brings little school supplies instead of money.

4. Back to School Bus Advent Calendar

5. Back to School Interviews and Scrapbook pages – Don’t do all the work yourself! The crafty moms on Pinterest have already come up with templates for you to print off and save forever.
