We spent this glorious Autumn day exploring the Lapham Peak Unit of the Kettle Morraine Forest out in Delafield. Of all the state parks we’ve visited, this is by far one of the most family-friendly.
Here’s how we did it:
1.) Head west on 94.
2.) Exit on County Hwy C (Delafield exit) and head south. The park entrance will be on your left.
3.) Pay $7.00 to get in, or purchase a yearly pass to the state parks.
4.) Drive a few minutes to the Hausman Nature Center and park there.
5.) Find the paved road behind the Nature Center and head straight back to the butterfly garden. There are open trails with easy terrain around the butterfly garden and beautiful open meadows.
6.) After exploring the butterfly garden area, head south on the orange trail and follow the signs to the observatory tower.
7.) Climb the observatory tower, located on the highest point in Waukesha county, for an absolutely incredible view of the area.
This made for a really lovely day, observing the changing leaves and getting some fresh air. If you visit, please leave a comment below about your experience!
