Juneteenth Day is June 19th, and it commemorates emancipation, or the ending of slavery in the United States. Today, it is a celebration of African-American achievement. This community-wide event is organized as a street festival with various family-friendly activities taking place over the course of a day. The annual summer block party encourages anyone and everyone to attend and join in the festivities, which include a lively parade, a Miss Juneteenth Day Pageant, live music, kids’ games, exhibits, soul food and more.
