Back to School Playground Games Night for Fostering Community

Fostering Families is a local organization that supports families involved in fostering and adoption. There are more than 2,000 children in foster care in Milwaukee County. Fostering Families seeks to encourage and empower families involved with both fostering and adoption through family events and community connections.

We recently shared on our social media a drive that Fostering Families is currently collecting school supplies for over 100 foster kids to start off the upcoming school year. We decided to make our support of this drive a little extra fun by adding in a somewhat impromptu playground games night as well where we can spend a little time as families in our SBK community having some summer fun together!

What to expect:

While everyone gathers, we’ll spend a few minutes making some encouraging notes to include with the school supplies we’ll be sending off to the foster families. Then we’ll spend the rest of the time having some good old fashioned playground fun together playing classic games like freeze tag, duck duck goose, kickball, etc.- whatever the kids want to play! There is also a playground at the park for kids that want to opt out of any of the games.

Capacity & age recommendations:

All ages are welcome- we’ll gear our playground games toward the ages of the kids attending. We’re happy to welcome as many families as want to join, including guests.

What to bring:

Bring your creativity for making the “happy back to school” cards, and, if you are able, please consider bringing school supplies for Fostering Community’s drive. They’re hoping to collect and fill 110 backpacks, and we would love to help push them closer to meeting this goal! See Fostering Community’s Target wishlist HERE for an idea of their most needed items.

Can’t make it, but still want to contribute school supplies? We’ll have a drop off bin location in Pewaukee through Tuesday 8/8. Exact address will be provided upon registration. Fostering Families also has multiple drop off locations throughout Waukesha and Milwaukee counties- check out exact locations on their Facebook page HERE

This project is open to members* and guests.  Please only sign up if you know you can attend. We understand illness and emergencies do come up so if you register and can no longer attend, please let us know ASAP so we can fill your spot.

Please note: Dates and times are subject to change, and occasionally events may be cancelled. Please check the event website to confirm the latest details: (Hey! It’s Play Time MKE!)
